Swiatek grew up idolizing Nadal.

Swiatek is now a tennis superstar, but he still gets goosebumps watching Nadal’s matches.

Swiatek, who won his first French Open Grand Slam title in 2020, recently revealed that he cried after Nadal lost his French Open semi-final to Djokovic last year.

“Rafael Nadal has always been my idol. I have quite sad memories of Roland Garros last year because I was crying when Rafa lost to Novak. [Djokovic]. But two years ago, she was watching the final.

I did the trophy photo shoot. [après avoir remporté le titre féminin]”, Swiatek told Eurosport France. “I was wearing this very beautiful long dress and I went to see the final like this.

“It was good because I didn’t get a chance to see [Nadal] play so often. I wanted to take this opportunity.” Earlier this year, Swiatek reached the Australian Open semifinal before losing to Danielle Collins.

After that loss, Swiatek stayed in Melbourne for a few more days because he wanted to see Nadal in the final.
During the final between Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, the cameras caught Swiatek celebrating and excited by Nadal’s incredible comeback.

When asked about Swiatek, Nadal had nothing but kind and positive words for the new World No. 1.
