2 years ago, the LTA National Tennis Center in Roehampton hosted the Battle of the Brits for Team Tennis from St. James’s Place. The event brought together the top British players from the ATP and WTA.
It was also a great opportunity to allow everyone to get in shape before the season restart. Three-time Major champion Andy Murray had a blast with his teammates as he played alongside Jodie Burrage in mixed doubles.
Sharing his thoughts with reporters, Andy said he wanted to see more mixed doubles in official tournaments. As an example, the Brit mentioned the famous Hopman Cup clash between the United States and Switzerland in January 2019.
Then we could find Serena Williams and Roger Federer at that moment, playing against each other. It was the decider of the match after both Serena and Roger won their singles matches.
In the end, it was Federer and Bencic who beat Williams and Tiafoe 4-2, 4-3 in 46 minutes to give their country the second point.

Murray said he would be delighted to see the light of day in a similar competition.
In fact, the Hopman Cup has lost its place on the calendar due to the ATP Cup created in 2020. The two-time Wimbledon champion, however, wanted to see Rafael Nadal and other players paired with great figures from the WTA Tour, while saying that he felt the crowd would enjoy those sporting moments.
“I think tennis is missing something with mixed doubles. The Hopman Cup, for example, was a brilliant event and the players enjoyed it. Sometimes there were weird moments in some matches, but that would be my only criticism.”
I have played it several times and I love it. It was a great event. Having matches like Serena Williams against Roger Federer is great for our sport.
We can do it, and I think we should do it a little bit more, not necessarily every week, but from time to time. I would like to see Rafael Nadal on court with one of the best (Spanish) players.
When I saw Roger and Serena play, I really liked it. They liked it and I’m sure they enjoyed it too,” said Andy Murray.
