Joseph Alphonse Larade
May 20, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Joseph Alphonse Larade de Chéticamp, 69, on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Saint John Regional Hospital with his family.
Alphonse served 26 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and was very proud of his career. Although he first enlisted in the Royal 22e Régiment (Vandoos), his passion clearly served in the Canadian Airborne Regiment, where he served most of his career and where he logged over 300 jumps. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in countless missions on every continent of the world and has been stationed and served in every region of Canada. While in the Army, his second passion was playing hockey, although he spent a great deal of time in the penalty box. When he was not deployed, he enjoyed coaching minor hockey and ball. While he was home during the winter months, he could be seen building an ice rink in the yard for neighborhood kids to skate, play hockey or just hang out.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed his winters in Florida with his wife of 48 years as they pursued their passion, cruising. Florida also allowed them to enjoy their winter friends and golf. His summers at Cheticamp were spent with friends, mostly on the golf course. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie that was part of the men’s night at the golf club.
Alphonse always saw the best in people and believed that everyone needed a chance to do better. His kindness and compassion touched everyone and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
His love for family was evident in everything he did and their well-being was clearly his priority. In addition to loving his wife Adele, he was also extremely proud of his children Tim (Shawna) and Melanie, as well as his five beautiful grandchildren, Lulu, Hannah, Khloe, Isabella and Leila, whom he loved. loved a lot. It was clear that he loved his life and focused his attention and energy on making sure his love, Adele, was always happy.
He is survived by his wife Adele, his children Tim and Melanie, his brothers and sisters Thérèse, Yvonne, Isabelle, Marie-Hélène and Georgette, Gordon, Claude and Gérard. He is preceded in death by his mother Béatrice (Poirier) and his father Leo T. (Larade) and his brothers and sisters Marie-Cécile, Eveline, Robert and Joseph.
Alphonse was a loving and devoted husband, father and soldier. He will be missed by many at Cheticamp and throughout the Airborne Regiment and Army.
