Danielle Kang, ranked tenth in the world, won the Tournament of Champions, the first event of the year on the LPGA women’s circuit, on Sunday in Orlando where France’s Céline Boutier finished fourth.
The American returned the best card of the day (68, -4), thanks to six birdies (two bogeys) to add -16. That’s three shots better than his runner-up, Gaby Lopez of Mexico and Brooke Henderson of Canada. Second the day before, Kang, winner of the LPGA Championship in 2017, the only Major in her record, was thus the strongest during a fatal 4th round for Nelly Korda, who had led the debates so far.
Indeed, the number 1 in the world has collapsed with a +3 to finish 4th, tied with Boutier, six lengths behind the champion of the day. In fact, the Frenchwoman couldn’t play spoilsport and she ended her weekend in Florida with her worst card (71). The 28-year-old golfer, who owed her presence at this tournament to her victory last year at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, will therefore be hoping to win a third North American title.
