Mickelson renounces the PGA Championship

Phil Mickelson has withdrawn for the PGA Championship, which will take place May 19-22 on the fairways of the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 51-year-old was set to defend his title, winning the event in 2021, becoming the oldest golfer to win a Grand Slam tournament, the sixth in his career.

“Phil is eligible for lifetime PGA membership and we would have welcomed him with open arms had he wanted to participate,” PGA of America wrote on its Twitter account. We wish the best to Phil and [sa femme] Amy and I can’t wait to see him return to the game.”

Mickelson walked away from the golf world in February after inappropriate comments about him against the PGA surfaced. He then apologized and said that he was taking a break to work on himself and spend time with his loved ones.
