It was at the age of 7 that Maéva Coutant discovered Taekwondo thanks to her mother who had a soft spot for combat sports.

“We tried and I held on. It became a passion, because basically I have a quite tenacious character, I really liked the idea of ​​hitting “she said, smiling.

“My first steps in the competition, I took them in minimum where I was second. It was the beginning of an unforgettable annual meeting. The following year, I became champion of France. In total I count 11 national titles (minimes, cadet, junior, aspirants and seniors combined) Thanks to these results, I was able to be located by the Federation, which allowed me to participate in the 1st European Cadet Championship in 2005 that took place in Sicily. The click was immediate, I knew I wanted to go to the highest level.”

At the same time, Maéva evolves in the regional structures established by the Reunion Taekwondo League. In the first place the pre-polo (2003-2004) and the hope (from 2004 to 2007). The year 2007 turns out to be a good year for her because Maeva becomes Junior European Champion in Azerbaijan. She immediately joined the French polo in Aix-en-Provence.

So I left my island at 16 in the direction of the metropolis. My training within this structure gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues. While still a Junior, I was selected for the Senior European Championships in Italy in Rome and won bronze there. This result pushes me among the best in France, the doors of INSEP are open to me. This is the last structure I covet ”.

For six years, Maéva participated in World Championships, European Championships (Olympic preparation, in particular the London 2012 Olympic Games), the Open and various international courses. But during her trip, she injured her cruciate ligaments in 2009. Determined, she still participated in the World Championships in Copenhagen and finished fourth with her injury.

As a result of this misadventure, they operated on me. It’s part of the game and you have to reconcile performance and health. Not forgetting my studies, I passed my Baccalaureate within INSEP this year ”.
